RALEIGH, N.C., Feb. 22 (UPI) — Americans love Hawaii, even those who have never been there, a poll indicates.
Asking voters their impressions of each of the 50 states in a survey begun in October, Public Policy Polling announced Tuesday the state with the most favorable image is Hawaii, followed by Colorado, Tennessee and South Dakota. California came in last on the list.
Respondents were asked for a simple positive or negative impression of each state, the difference, or “margin” used for ranking. Hawaii’s 54 percent favorable and 10 percent unfavorable resulted in a margin of 44, for first place. Colorado’s was 35, and Tennessee and South Dakota had 34.
Five states were in negative territory, led by California with -17, Illinois with -10, New Jersey’s -7, Mississippi’s -6 and Utah’s -3.
